PROPOSALS to crack down on rogue employment agencies come under the spotlight at the European Parliament in Strasbourg tomorrow.
MEPs are to consider European Commission proposals to extend full-time employment rights to the millions of temporary staff employed by agencies across the EU.
Jean Lambert MEP, whose London constituency boasts one of the highest densities of temping agencies in Europe, said: "Many of London's employment agencies are extremely reputable and offer us examples of best practice.
"But there are those whose sharp practices bring the industry into disrepute by wriggling out of the regulations to take advantage of some of the most vulnerable in society. That's why I've given my full backing to this proposal to extend minimum working standards to all, whether they are employed on a full-time or temporary basis and whether they are employed directly or through an agency."
The proposals will be debated tonight (Wednesday, November 20) and a vote taken in Strasbourg tomorrow.
